    Simon X. Yang received the Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB, Canada, in 1999. He is currently a Professor and the Head of the Advanced Robotics and Intelligent Systems Laboratory, University of Guelph, Guelph, ON, Canada. His research interests include robotics, intelligent systems, sensors and multisensor fusion, wireless sensor networks, control systems, transportation, and computational neuroscience. He was the General Chair of the 2011 IEEE International Conference on Logistics and Automation and the Program Chair of the 2015 IEEE International Conference on Information and Automation. He also serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Robotics and Automation and an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics and several other journals.

  • Henry Leung

    Dr. Henry Leung is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Software Engineering at the University of Calgary. Before joining the University of Calgary, Dr. Henry Leung was with the Department of National Defence (DND) of Canada as a defence scientist to conduct research and development of decision support systems, radar signal processing and data fusion. He was appointed as the national leader to represent Canada for the TTCP cooperative program on radar data processing and sensor fusion. His current research includes data mining, information fusion, machine learning, nonlinear dynamics, decision support, robotics, sensor networks and intern of things. He has published extensively in the open literature on these topics. He has over 240 journal papers and over 200 refereed conference papers. He also holds more than 15 patents. He is also a visiting professor of the Shanghai JiaoTong University, PR China (2017-2020) and a HaiTien academic visiting professor of the Dalian University of Technology, PR China (20180-2020). Dr. Leung is the Topical Editor of the International Journal of Advanced Robotic Systems on Robotic Sensors. He is the editor of the Springer book series on “Information Fusion and Data Science”. He is currently the associate editor of various journals such as IEEE Trams. Aerospace and Electronic Systems, IEEE Circuits and System Magazine, IEICE Trans. on Nonlinear Theory and Applications. He was the chair of the Nonlinear Circuits and Systems of the IEEE Circuit and System Society and has served on the program committee, organizing committee, track chairs for various conferences. He has also served as guest editors for various journals such as “Intelligent Transportation Systems” for the International Journal on Information Fusion, “Cognitive Sensor Networks” and “Deep Learning for Multi-sensor Multi-source Information Fusion” for the IEEE Sensor Journal. He is a Fellow of IEEE and SPIE.

    Danilo Avola earned his Ph.D. degree in Molecular and Ultrastructural Imaging from University of L'Aquila, L'Aquila, Italy, in 2014. Since 2021 he is Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science of Sapienza University of Rome, where he leads both the Robotics Vision and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (TITAN Lab) and the Computer Vison Laboratory (VisionLab). In addition, since 2018 he is R&D Senior Engineer at the W•SENSE s.r.l., a spin-off of Sapienza University of Rome, where he leads the Computer Vision Team (CVT), and since 2010 he provides consultation and collaboration to companies engaged in computer science, computer vision, and artificial intelligence research projects. Previously, he was postdoc researcher at the Department of Mathematics, Computer Science and Physics (DMIF), University of Udine, Udine, Italy, and R&D Senior Engineer at the Artificial Vision and Real-Time Systems Laboratory (AVIRES Lab) at the same University. Even before, he was R&D Senior Engineer and Supervisor, earlier, at the Multimodal & Multimedia Laboratory (M&M Lab) of the National Research Council, Rome, Italy, and, later, both at the Pictorial Computing Laboratory (PCL Lab) and at the Artificial Vision Laboratory (AV Lab) of Sapienza University of Rome. Among other awards and prizes, Danilo Avola received, in 2020, the Outstanding Paper Award for IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics (TII). Currently, he is Reviewer of top International Journals in Computer Vision, including Pattern Recognition, Pattern Recognition Letters, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology, IEEE Transactions on Human-Machine Systems, and International Journal of Computer Vision; in addition, he is Associate Editor and Guest Editor of different ranked International Journals. His research interests include Computer Vision, Image/Video Processing, Human Computer Interaction, Wi-Fi Signal Processing, EGG Signal Processing, Machine/Deep Learning, Multimodal Systems, Pattern Recognition, Event/Action/Affect Recognition, Action, Scene Understanding, Body Language and Face Expression Interpretation, Robotics (UAVs, AUVs, ROVs, Humanoids), and has published around 100 papers on these topics. Since 2011, Danilo Avola is member of IAPR, CVPL, and IEEE.

  • Michele Fiorini

    Dr Michele Fiorini, MBA, PhD, CEng, FIET, SMIEEE educated at Ancona (Italy), Bath (United Kingdom) and Gdańsk (Poland) Universities, holds a Ph.D. in electronic and telecommunications engineering in Italy and an M.B.A. in strategy, programme and project management in Poland. He is an engineering manager at Leonardo s.p.a. in Rome (Italy) where he is providing technical and management leadership on C5ISR (command, control, communications, computers, cyber- defence, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance) systems. He is author of an international patent on anti-piracy system for navigation in critical areas (EP2601647A1, 2015) and tens of peer-reviewed publications including a book chapter in the “Organizational Change, Innovation and Business Development. The Impact of Non-Technological Innovations”edited by Magdalena Popowska and Julita E. Wasilczuk (Routledge, 2022) and two IET Transportation Series books: “ICT Solutions and Digitalisation in Ports and Shipping”(2021) and “Clean Mobility and Intelligent Transport Systems”(2015). Dr Fiorini has been a Session Chair at the 2013 Euro-Asia Economic Forum in Xi’an, China; Chair of the Council at the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) in London, 2017-‘18; and a Chair of Judges at the Engineering& Technology (E&T) Innovation Awards 2022.
